I’m not sure exactly where I’m going with this post, but I feel a strong need to get some words out. Julia is one smart little cookie and she is getting to the point in her life where she knows things. One thing she is realizing is that she’s just like all the other kids in most regards, but there are things about her that make her just a bit different. Julia has cystic fibrosis…she knows it…we all know it. But, Julia has decided that she doesn’t want to have CF anymore. As a parent…what are you supposed to do with that one?
Treatments are beginning to get a bit more challenging. Julia doesn’t want to do treatments. If you saw your big brother and big sister never doing any treatments, would you want to do them? I sure wouldn’t. I find myself saying, “It doesn’t matter if you want to do them or not.” As well as, “Do you want to do this the easy way or the hard way?” Julia knows that treatments are going to happen no matter what, but I don’t think that’s going to stop her from trying to be just like everyone else.
I explained to Julia that scientists are trying to develop a pill for people with CF so they won’t have to do so many treatments. Julia keeps asking me when the pill will be ready so that she won’t have to do lots of treatments. I wish I had an answer for her. That breaks my heart.
Please join us on May 19th for the Great Strides walk to benefit cystic fibrosis. I think now, more than ever, we need a pill…a cure so Julia and all people with CF won’t have to do so many treatments. Go to www.cff.org/Great_Strides/JannaMills and donate today!
It has been way too long! I thought I’d give you all a short update on our April activities.
We had a week off for spring break and it should have been a week of rest, but I had many painting projects planned for the week. The first project…fireplace face lift.
Second painting project…bathroom facelift.

My "helpers" hard at work again...before...gray/blue color...I mean, what goes with bright blue tile and a salmon/pink colored sink and tub?
To try to combat all of the fighting over the ballerina towel (Austin not included), I hung individual towel hooks for each child and made them a special hooded towel. So far so good! I just need to get their names put up over their hook.
And after all of our hard work, Easter Sunday fun!
April has been a busy month. Austin has started baseball. Julia and Olivia have started gymnastics. Joe has started softball. Me…I haven’t started anything, but I’m getting geared up to start back up at Westminster next month to finish my master’s degree. I’m wrapping up a school year and planning a baby shower for my sister.
I also want you all to join us at Great Strides this year. It is on Saturday, May 19th at 9:00 AM at the Energy Solutions Arena. Let me know if you want to join our team. Please visit www.cff.org/Great_Strides/JannaMills for more information. We’d love to see some more people come out and support Julia’s Warriors.
Enjoy this year’s Great Strides video!
This week we had five donations to our Julia’s Warriors Great Strides campaign. So that means that five people went into the bucket for a chance at our prize…a $20 Domino’s Pizza gift certificate and two Bitesizers. This week we raised $550 dollars for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! I am so excited about this! That makes our grand total $780! Here is our drawing video:
Congratulations Margie! This week we’re giving away a $25 gift certificate to Old Navy and two Bitesizers. To enter our drawing make a minimum donation of $20 to Julia’s Warriors Great Strides campaign by Friday, April 15th.
Also, this Saturday, April 16th I’m running the Salt Lake City Marathon in honor of Julia and those with cystic fibrosis. Be sure to leave a marathon finish time guess in your comments when you make your donation. The closest guess will get a fantastic prize. My sister Sarah has been rounding up some pretty amazing things. She was able to score four Alpine Slide tickets in Park City which may be a possible prize if the winner is a local. I’ll keep you posted, but the winner will for sure get a Julia’s Warriors t-shirt, a couple of Bitesizers and one other mystery item.
I am scared to death of this whole marathon business and I can’t wait for Saturday to be over. It looks like good weather is expected, so hopefully that holds for this Saturday. Get your guess in soon because it’s less than one week away!
Yesterday was the Great Strides walk. We all went as a family to walk for a cure for cystic fibrosis. It was a beautiful day and perfect for the walk. This year it was held in Downtown Salt Lake City and I thought it was a perfect place for the event. We enjoyed watching the rollerskating dancers, listening to music, building with Home Depot, and much more! We can’t wait for ’til next year!
