Lovin’ the Nikon

I have been playing around with my sister’s Nikon D90 and just lovin’ it!  This camera is totally amazing and will probably take me years to figure out…can you tell I totally want one?  Well, here are some photos I took of my girls this weekend.  These pictures are truly beautiful…such pretty girls!  Happy back to school everyone!

Summer Fun

Friday we had a fun summer dinner with people from our church and people in the neighborhood.  It was filled with great activities for the kids.  The girls enjoyed riding the horses that were brought in by a very generous neighbor.  There was a huge water slide that my kids drooled over because I didn’t bring towels or bathing suits, but they did get to throw the ball at the dunking booth and get their friends wet.

Austin waited in line for an hour to do the zip-line, which gave me much anxiety.  I was waiting for it to break at any moment and send some poor child plummeting to the ground.  Luckily, it held up.  It was very high up in the air and very long, extending at least a football field in length, maybe a bit more.  Anyway, great fun for a Friday night.  We have such a great neighborhood here.  I can’t believe that it will be a year next month since we’ve been here.  We love it!

Yard Work…Pays Off

This is a picture of our house when we first moved in.

Another before picture...can you say jungle?

This is what the front of our house looks like today!

You can see the big spot where the stumps were.

Aww, look at the cute little tree and pretty little flowers!

Before grass...

This is what our back yard looks like today!

Yard work...pays off.

Yard work=hard work!

OK, so this is the big reveal.  Joey and I have been working for months, trying to get our yard looking a little bit better.  Both our back and front yards resembled rain forest like jungles when we moved in.  We have rented several machines which have included a backhoe digger, an industrial sized tiler, and a stump grinder, just to get it ready for grass.  We finally feel like we actually have a yard for our kids to enjoy!  We have been given mixed reactions from the public…mostly positive feedback, and one negative complaint from a neighbor who had a problem with us cutting down dead stuff in our back yard…what?!  It doesn’t matter, because we love it!

The city finished work out on our street yesterday, replacing the gutter and making it so the water runs down the street instead of creating a large pond in front of our house all winter long.  We feel at ease, getting rid of standing water and any bacteria that it might be growing, lying in wait to infest Julia’s lungs.

As Olivia’s preschool teachers teach the kids…hard work, or in our case yard work, pays off!

Night at Hogle Zoo

Mascot Mania!

Ladybug Julia

Ladybug Olivia

Snake boy Austin

We were given some special tickets by Primary Children’s Hospital to attend a night out at Hogle Zoo.  It was perfect weather for the event…overcast and cool t-shirt weather.  We had dinner provided by Chick-fil-a, face painting, pictures with various animal mascots, and lots of fun.  To Julia, it was like going to the zoo for the first time, because she can’t remember the times we’ve been there before.  She had a blast seeing all the different animals.  The kids all loved their face paintings and Olivia wore hers for two days afterward.  She was disappointed when I had her wash it off for church.

School is finally out.  The kids start gymnastics today!  They are all so excited.  We are camping this weekend with friends and can’t wait to catch lots of fish.  Our yard is just about finished as sod is going in the back today.  I’ll post some before and after shots in a day or so.  I hope to be able to slow down a little bit this summer.

Julia has had good health.  She is three days out from finishing another round of TOBI.  I will be so glad to get a 28 day break from it and I know she will be as well.  She has been on a nasal-steroid spray, which seems to be helping some nasal congestion she’s had lately.  I can hear CF in her more and more each day.  She now has a cough that appears randomly during the day, and has coughing spells during treatment time.  It’s a change from when she was younger and I never heard her cough, ever.  This disease slowly does it’s thing.  Julia is such a trooper and she is truly an amazing little person.

Girls are so much fun!

May has got to be the craziest month ever!  Everything happens in May.  I am looking forward to winding down and relaxing (ha, ha) for the summer.  Actually, my plan is to get all kinds of things done this summer with the kids being home.  Believe it or not, I’ve been driving at least two hours a day, and that’s on a good day.  I’ll gain so much time not playing taxi mama and hope to use it in some productive manner.  Olivia is wrapping up dance with her recital this Saturday and she is so darn cute!  She loves dressing up in her costume and performing.  She has blossomed so much this year.  Her teachers at preschool just lover her and tell me how wonderful she is.  That just makes this mama’s day!  She is so ready for kindergarten.

All of the kids will be in gymnastics this summer.  They had their practice class this week and they all just loved, loved, loved it!  Austin is so excited…he keeps telling me how fun it was.  Julia asks to go everyday and Olivia can’t be pried out of her gymnastics leotard.  The fantastic thing is that they will all be going same day, same time.  How great is that!?!  Summer vacation can’t get here soon enough…
